There is A LOT that goes into a wedding. Oftentimes, when couples work with a wedding planner, they can’t wait to dive right into the fun parts. The wedding cake tasting, creating invitations, choosing centerpieces. I can’t blame you! When couples try to plan their weddings without the help of a wedding planner, they often find out how many “not as fun” parts really go into a wedding. After years of weddings, I can tell you: bad logistical planning and day of execution can make even the most beautiful wedding designs fall flat. You need both. A Colorful Destination Wedding in Chicago
Lael and Cy chose bright and bold colors for the wedding, which honestly reflected them and their personalities perfectly. They are both comedians, and they wanted their wedding to be filled with joy. When I look at these wedding photos, I know that we did that. You can’t help but look at the colorful and luxurious details without feeling so much happiness. The pink velvet chairs are a whole mood.
I also loved how they chose to include lots of lounge seating as well – both during cocktail hour and for the reception. Coco Chanel once said, “Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury”. I have always believed that weddings need to be beautiful AND comfortable for your guests, and lounge seating is one way to do that. As someone who appreciates a lot of details, I also loved how there were many different places to take pictures! You don’t have to “do things for the ‘gram” but if you want to? THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.
Creating an Experience for Your Wedding Guests
More than the stunning Instagrammable decor, their wedding was also infused with fun and unique experiences for their wedding guests. Lael and Cy are both fun people, so their wedding needed to reflect that. I always take my role as professional party started seriously, but this was next level. I wanted to make sure I checked off each and every detail, and more than made sure that everyone was having a good time!
Just a few fun experiences for their guests included:
- Stunning & Unique Wedding Invitations (these set the tone for the entire event!)
- Disco ball escort cards
- A donut wall game (I love a new take on a classic!)
- A poloroid guest book
There is so much that goes into planning a wedding like this, and as the month of coordinator, I wanted to make sure no morsel of effort was wasted. I loved every single minute of it and adored all of the details.
Chicago Wedding Venue: Loft Lucia
Even though I truly believe these two could have had fun anywhere, they chose an incredible Chicago wedding venue. If you are looking for a smaller wedding venue in Chicago, I would highly and gladly recommend them (they have spaces up to 130 guests for either the ceremony or the reception). As an extra tip when planning a destination wedding, I always recommend spending a little extra on a wedding venue that includes the luxurious touches you want. If you choose a less expensive venue, you’ll often find yourself upgrading so many things that you’ll more than make up the difference. Everything at Loft Lucia is high end and fabulous.
