I have to be honest with you all – I’m still kind of obsessed with this wedding. Everytime I look at the photos, it brings me back to how much fun it was. When I met with Sommer and Greg to plan their Skylar Wedding reception, they didn’t want to have a traditional wedding that felt stuffy. They wanted a looser structure where they could just enjoy time with their family and friends. Instead of doing something super formal like a sit down dinner, they chose to have a fun cocktail reception with lots of dancing instead. Instead of cake cutting, I suggested a champagne tower that was a huge hit! It’s been long anticipated that 2020’s would bring back the glamour of Great Gatsby times and I am more ready than ever for it. If you are planning a NYC wedding, make sure to get in touch here.
I love to work with couples who are deeply in love. Connection is everything to me and it comes through in everything I do. I like to make sure every wedding I assist with is truly unique (you can peruse more real NYC weddings here), but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you feel truly connected and present on your wedding day. I built Veronica Joy Events to spread as much joy as possible and I couldn’t be more grateful for how the last few years have gone. While I was handling the behind the scenes logistics of the cocktail reception at Skylark we had planned, Sommer and Greg could feel completely relaxed – like a guest on their wedding day.
Sommer and Greg made their own rules and I was HERE FOR IT. They wanted the “main event” to be a giant Saturday night party so that’s what we created. What I loved the most about it was how truly and authentically “them” it felt. For their first dance, they chose “Sun in Shining” by Funkstar De Luxe, PBH & Jax. Halfway through, they invited the rest of their guests to join in. Throughout the whole evening the goal was always to make sure their guests were having as much fun as they were. Mission accomplished. The Skylark has been one of my favorite NYC venues (for all different types of events) for a while now and I couldn’t have been happier with them.
When we were planning their wedding reception, Sommer and Greg weren’t overly inspired or excited about doing a traditional cake cutting. I knew they wanted their wedding to feel fun and luxe, so I suggested they do a champagne tower instead. I knew it would be a lot of fun, but even I couldn’t believe what a HUGE hit it was with all the guests. When Sommer switched to her reception wedding dress, the party was officially started. Get ready to channel your inner Great Gatsby vibes.
That concludes their wedding day, but I have a feeling that the fun won’t stop here for these two. It was clear from the moment I met them the love they have for each other and their family and friends. It radiated from them.
